Here's the tracklisting (320kbps)...
01) Everything I Need - Tiger B. Smith (Germany 1972)
Power trio from Frankfurt heavy on riffs & hair but light on subtlety. Taken from their seminal debut produced by the legendary Dieter Dierks.
02) T.N.U.C. - Grand Funk Railroad (USA 1975)Live offering from Detroit's finest. Unashamed crotch-thrusting, foot-on-the-monitors rock. For more on Grand Funk, consult your school library.
03) Ain't Gonna Take No More - Highway Robbery (USA 1972)Obscure trio from their sole album. Nice wailing vocals.
04) Searching For A New Dimension - Mariani (USA 1970)Even-more-obscure Texas power trio. From their 1970 unreleased acetate.
05) Hard Rain Fallin' - Sir Lord Baltimore (USA 1970)Legendary New York trio rocking out. Taken from their debut album "Kingdom Come" famous for the fact that a 1971 review contained the first documented use of the term "heavy metal" to refer to a style of music.
06) Shot Down In Flames - AC/DC (Australia 1979)From "Highway To Hell"...
07) Persecution - Third Power (USA 1968)It seems that Detroit skipped psychedelia & went straight from garage rock to heavy rock (Stooges, MC5, Grand Funk etc.). In 1968 when most bands were folking themselves silly & putting flowers in things, bands like Third Power were turning their Marshalls up to 11 & rocking (as they say) out.
08) I'm A Man - The Yellow Payges (USA 1972)LA heavy garage rock outfit with some wild psychedelic guitar shenanigans.
09) One Eyed Jacks With Moustaches - Slade (UK 1977)The Black Country's finest rock out in the year of Punk. Kipper tie, Noddy?
10) Do It - Pink Fairies (UK 1971)Debut release by freakrock/festival legends formed from the ashes of Mick Farren's Deviants.
11) White Lace & Strange - Thunder & Roses (USA 1968)Philadelphia power trio from their sole album issued in 1968. This track was covered by Nirvana for a radio session in the late 1980's.
12) Brighton Rock - Queen (UK 1974)Before they became awful, Queen could occasionally rock with the best of 'em as evidenced on this opening track to "Sheer Heart Attack". [Ernest's Note: This album was the first ever record I really wanted. Shame, as you say, they became shit.]
13) Summertime Blues - Blue Cheer (USA 1968)The god-like genius of Blue Cheer's debut album "Vincebus Eruptum" should never be underplayed. Named after a brand of acid, the San Francisco trio's take on Eddie Cochrane's standard captures their style perfectly. Guitarist Leigh Stephens claimed in a 1980's interview that he hadn't actually taken acid... he was lying (as evidenced during the middle part of the song... “Snap out of it Leigh, ya trippin' fool!!!”).
14) It Couldn't Be Me - Power Of Zeus (USA 1970)Back to Detroit again for a slice of heavy pysch from their sole release.
15) Angeline - Genesis [USA] (USA 1969)One-off single release by US rockers Genesis who had nothing to do with Phil Collins (mercifully).
16) Bad Woman - Speed, Glue & Shinki (Japan 1972)Thoroughly unhinged power trio from Japan who named themselves after their favourite drugs (apart from guitarist Shinki Chen who named himself after, um... himself). Taken from their self-titled second & final album.
17) Sweet Leaf - Black Sabbath (UK 1971)How else to finish? All hail Black Sabbath. From their third album "Master Of Reality".
