UPDATE: I've re-ripped it from a different tape so the quality of this download is better. It's still from a 25 year old tape though :)
LATEST UPDATE: The Old Punk has given me some good news about this. Someone by the name of Paco has released a vinyl pressing of this classic. It's only £6 plus a bit for postage. It comes with a poster and a copy of the original booklet too. Get it here - La Vida Es En Mus.
A Little Touch Of Harry In The Night was the first release from Blyth Power. It was originally released on cassette in 1984 so the actual quality of the files is not exactly perfect.
Blyth Power are a British 'folk punk' band formed in 1983 by singer/drummer Joseph Porter, formerly of Zounds and The Mob.
Blyth Power's music shows strong influences from punk rock and folk music, and the band members have described their sound as a cross between The Clash, Steeleye Span and The Rubettes.

This is a copy of a tape by a band called Paperhouse which was released in 1991. I saw them live years ago and thought they were excellent so I bought a copy of their tape. Coming from somewhere in Surrey they play a psychedelic mix of dub-tinged space rock, very much in the same vein as early Ozric Tentacles and bands like that. The sound quality isn't perfect but considering it's taken from a 20 year old tape then it's not bad at all. The lineup of the band is Jake (Guitar), Andy (Bass), Phil (Drums) & Brian (Keyboards).

Here is a download of a demo from 1987 by the hardcore punk band, Gorilla Biscuits. The band consist of Anthony "Civ" Civarelli, Walter Schreifels, Arthur Smilios, Alex Brown and Luke Abbey. Gorilla Biscuits is currently signed to Revelation Records. Apparently their name comes from the drug quaaludes, which people called "ape shit" or "gorilla biscuits" due to the pill's large size. Though the name was only meant to be temporary they have continued to use it.

NOTE:
This could well be my last upload for a little while. Certain things have happened recently which will take priority over the blog (My Mum isn't well and the company I work for are laying off 50% of the staff). Hopefully everything will turn out alright and I'll be back in the near future. Thanks for listening :)

Here's a selection of demo's, rehearsals and alternate versions of tracks by Minor Threat. Included in the download is a rehearsal from 1981 done in the living room at their home, Dischord House. Apparently the original source was recorded on a Maxwell normal bias UR 90 cassette. There is also a copy of their first demo tape which was recorded in 1981 and then released in 2003. There is also an 'alternate mix' version of the Out Of Step album and finally I've also included another collection of demos that was released in 2001 as a split album with Youth Brigade (I've included the Youth Brigade tracks as well). Obviously some of the quality isn't great but you've already got the discography CD so I thought I'd post up some more obscure stuff.
Minor Threat were an American hardcore punk band, formed in 1980 in Washington, D.C.. The band split in 1983 & even though they were fairly short-lived they had a massive influence on the hardcore punk scene, both stylistically & in establishing a "do it yourself" ethic for music distribution & concert promotion. Their song "Straight Edge" became the eventual basis of the straight edge movement, while the band often professed their own "straight edge" ideals.

This download is the remastered demo's by Bad Brains recorded in 1979. Bad Brains are a hardcore punk band from the United States formed in Washington, D.C. in 1977. They are widely regarded as among the pioneers of hardcore punk but they are also an adept reggae band.
This demo is basically the band's first full length session of any kind in a recording studio. It was recorded in Don Zientara's basement which had a four track Teac 1/4" tape deck and a small drum booth to one side of the basement. The track list represents all of the band's songs, their first month's output, starting with the first song the band ever wrote, "Don't Need It." As is true with all 4 track recordings some decisions were made "going to tape", most notable is the eerie reverb on the drums, and these choices are forever a part of the mix.

Black Flag was an American punk band started in 1976 in Hermosa Beach, California. The band was formed by Greg Ginn, the guitarist, primary songwriter & sole continuous member through multiple personnel changes in the band. They are widely considered to be one of the first hardcore punk bands.
This download is the 1982 demo featuring the short-lived five-piece lineup of Henry Rollins, Greg Ginn, Chuck Dukowski, Dez Cadena & Chuck Biscuits. The first 10 tracks are mostly stuff that would end up on My War and Slip It In, but there are two that have never officially been released. The last four tracks are from a radio show recorded just after Kira joined the band (one of the tracks is an interview).

Carrying on with the Zounds post I did the other day here is a couple of demo's by the band. One was recorded in 1979 and the other is from 1980. Zounds are an English anarchist band formed in 1977 and were formed around the nucleus of Steve Lake from Reading, Berkshire. The band began performing gigs in 1977/78 with a line-up of Steve Lake (Vocals/Bass), Steve Burch (Guitar) and Jimmy Lacey (Drums) adding Nick Godwin (guitar) at their second gig. Soon Burch left the group and was replaced by Lawrence Wood. After this the band slowly became more politicized due to troubles with police and unfolding events of the cold war, and became more involved with free festivals, alongside The Mob who they developed a close association with.
The name of the band is derived from the old English minced oath coined by William Shakespeare: "zounds", which is a contraction of "God's wounds", referring to the crucifixion wounds of Jesus Christ, formerly used as a mildly blasphemous oath.
I originally got these two demos from the excellent Kill Your Pet Puppy site so a big thanks to them. There's loads of good stuff there so you should check it out.
