Harry Nilsson - The Point

I absolutely love this album so I'm gonna re-up it for you. I remember liking it as a kid and then when I was about eighteen some friends and I were at a jumble sale and there it was. It even had the original comic book with it (scans included with the download). Obviously my mate's took the piss out of me for getting so excited but after we dropped some acid and then listened to it they were converted. In fact, if it wasn't for LSD then the whole thing would never have existed. This is what Nilsson had to say about it...

"I was on acid and I looked at the trees and I realized that they all came to points, and the little branches came to points, and the houses came to point. I thought, 'Oh! Everything has a point, and if it doesn't, then there's a point to it.'" [Harry Nilsson]

Basically The Point is a tale by musician and songwriter Harry Nilsson about a boy named Oblio, the only round-headed person in the Pointed Village, and his dog called Arrow. The story is told through both song and narration and is great listening for children as well as adults.

THE MOVIE
There was also an animated film version of The Point!. The TV version was originally narrated by Dustin Hoffman but because of contract issues the film release used Ringo Starr as the narrator. The version embedded below is with Dustin Hoffman and is available on video.google.com.

Derek And Clive - Ad Nauseam

I got a request for the final Derek & Clive album so here it is. Derek and Clive is a double act of comedic characters created by Dudley Moore (Derek) and Peter Cook (Clive) in the 1970s. The characters are supposedly two lavatory attendants and are appallingly foul-mouthed extensions of their earlier characters Pete and Dud. Pretty much every 'sketch' is highly offensive and usually consist of the drunken pair swearing at each other. If words like fuck and shit offend you then you're not going to like this but I find some of it really funny :) This download is their third (& last) album called Ad Nauseam which was recorded in 1978. I've also included the transcripts of the 'sketches' with the download file. You can get the other two albums on this blog by clicking here. There was also a film documentary recorded in 1979 called Derek and Clive Get The Horn.

Pretty much every 'sketch' is highly offensive and usually consist of the drunken pair swearing at each other. If words like fuck and shit offend you or you can't cope with what is pretty low-brow comedy then you're not going to like this so you have been warned. Derek and Clive Live was their first album which was released in 1976. You can get their second album, Come Again on this blog by clicking here. They also released a third album which you can get from somewhere else ;)

I chose today for this post as it would've been my best mate's birthday (45th I think) and Derek & Clive is a quite appropriate choice really. So tonight I'll be raising a glass or seven to the memory of Eric Equality. Cheers dood, it was a pleasure. Ivor Cutler - Dandruff

Okay then... here's an album from a true eccentric. Ivor Cutler was a singer / poet / musician / writer / oddball from Glasgow in Scotland. This album was originally released in 1974 and even though I've heard a few of his other albums this is the one I know best. It contains such classics as Fremsley, I Believe In Bugs & If All The Cornflakes. Let's be honest, this isn't the kind of thing you'll be listening to everyday (respect to you if you do tho :) but every once in a while it's a lovely thing to hear.
