This groovy little selection of funk was put together by Solid Jackson, a good friend of mine. As well as including some tracks from a few of the usual suspects like James Brown and Funkadelic Mr Jackson also made sure there are a number of songs from some of the lesser known artists.

This compilation anthologises some of the best grooves that Fantasy Record’s subsidiary Galaxy issued in the late 1960s and early 1970s. Based in the San Francisco Bay Area, Galaxy naturally focused on the bluesy, earthier style of soul popular in that region, a sound exemplified by the local smash ‘Foxy Girls In Oakland’ by Rodger Collins. Other local acts on Galaxy were vocalist Lenny Williams, later to find fame with Tower Of Power, and blues singers JJ Malone and Tiny Powell, both of whose funky waxings for the label are represented here. Instrumental grooves from Merl Saunders and The Right Kind, and obscure nuggets from further notables like The Debonaires and Loleatta Holloway complete this compilation.

First off let me wish you all a happy Christmas and New Year, hope you have a good time :) This download is the soundtrack of the Blues Brothers film. I was talking to the wife the other day and was claiming I didn't like musicals when she then proceeded to list off about 10 I do like (Blues Brothers, Quadrophenia, Tommy, Crossroads, Rocky Horror and more which I cant remember now) so I guess I do like some musicals. Anyway I'm starting to ramble now so basically this sound track is an absolute gem, chock full of excellent soul/blues. Nearly all the songs on it get you *ahem* shakin' ya ass... and the film is a good watch too. So download it and shake your tail feathers :)

This mix is made up of hip hop, soul, funk and plenty of other laid back beats. Mixed in 2010 by DJ Freestyle from London, it was done to help promote a new club evening being setup by Spinback Promotions. The night's are being held at the Playtime Bar in Islington from 8pm to 2am and is free entry. The music will be club classics, funk, hip hop, soulful house and R&B from the resident DJs Freestyle, Compact & Templar.
