Crass - Merry Crassmas

Christmas greetings to you all :) and in the spirit of the season here's the wonderful Christmas single from that jolly bunch of lads (& ladies) Crass. The Merry Crassmas single was originally released in 1981 and features two sides of jolly yuletide hits. Perfect for a family Christmas.

D&V - Inspiration LP & Nearest Door EP (Crass Records)

Here's a rip of both releases by D&V on Crass Records. D&V only consisted of Andy Leach on drums and Jef Antcliffe on vocals, hence the name D&V (Drums & Vocals). This download consists of The Nearest Door EP which was released in 1983 and the hugely titled album Inspiration Gave Them The Motivation To Move On Out Of Their Isolation which was released in 1985. I hadn't heard the album in about 20 years and I was pretty surprised at how much I enjoyed it when I ripped it. The backing tracks were arranged and played by Penny Rimbaud using samples built up from vocal and percussive sources and the vocals of Eve Libertine & Joy de Vivre. Frankly it's pretty experimental in places but considering it's basically drums & vocals they've done a really good job.

A special mention goes to The Saucer People for reminding me about D&V and to The Loftmonkey for sending me the vinyl (check out his ebay shop over to the right or just click here).

The downloads are in FLAC or 320kbps mp3 format so just grab whichever one you want.

DJ Embryo - A Political Message Mix

This is an anarcho punk mix I did recently. It only goes on for 45 minutes & as well as lots of the old classics there is some not really anarcho stuff as well. I decided to do this 'cos of a photo that made me laugh I saw over at the oldpunksneverdie.com site. I've also added 3 ebooks to the download (mobi & html/txt formats). The Conquest Of Bread by Petr Kropotkin, The God Delusion by Richard Dawkins & The Last Of The Hippies by Penny Rimbaud

Special mention should go to Cassetteboy for some of the speeches... and for inspiring me to do some of my own.

... and as an added bonus see if you can find the hidden message :)

Bullshit Detector 2 (Crass Records)

This download isn't one of mine but thanks to the Old Punk you can get volume two of the Bullshit Detector series on Crass Records in FLAC (Lossless) format at the Old Punks Never Die site. In fact while you're waiting for your download to finish you can also get yourself some vegan recipes to try, pick up some home gardening tips or just check out the other music on the site.

Here's what Mr OP had to say...
The 'Bullshit Detector' series of three releases offered the chance for any @-punk with a tape recorder and something to say to get heard. Whether that was always a good thing or not, at least in technical or musical terms, can be (and has been) debated. What is undeniable is that these records offer a unique insight into @-punk culture in its heyday. Even the 'bad' tracks seem to fit in with the overall sense and purpose of the album and are certainly worth hearing at least once.

Heres the tracklisting (FLAC format)...
01) Voice Of U.K. [Waiting For Bardot]

Grindcore Collection (Repost)

Here's another compilation for your listening pleasure. This one's a selection of various different grindcore bands though there's also a bit of crust mixed in as well. Though whatever genre you want to call it this is all full on, blazing fast, brutal hardcore. Not for the faint hearted :) It will fit onto a CD if you want to burn a copy.

[13 DEC 2010] UPDATE: Just got to say a big thanks to Brutal Truth who tweeted this comp. Glad you liked it.

Grindcore is an extreme genre of music that started in the early to mid 1980s. It draws inspiration from some of the most abrasive music genres - including death metal, industrial music, noise and the more extreme varieties of hardcore punk.

Pogo Pope Compilation

To celebrate the pope's visit to the UK I've put together a nice little selection of punk tracks that are all related to religion. As you can probably guess I don't have the highest opinion of religion and the existence of a god or creator. Basically I'm what is known as an explicit atheist. Check out the wikipedia page for more information or visit the investigating atheism pages from the University of Cambridge. There's also the official Richard Dawkins site which is full of interesting stuff.

One final Amebix post for you. This one is an early demo recorded in 1979 and includes University Challenged which was the track that was included on the Bullshit Detector album on Crass records.

Amebix - Live In Slovenia 1986

This live show was recorded in 1986 in Ljubljana, Slovenia & was released as a bootleg called Make Some Fuckin' Noise on Arson Records.

Amebix are one of my favourite bands of all time & basically they're a bunch of crusty punk types from the west country in the UK. I always felt there was something a bit different & unique about the band & even though they're always lumped in with the anarcho-punk bands like Crass they aren't your standard Crass clone. A much slower, darker feel to their sound & combined with the bleak imagery of their art & lyrics Amebix always seemed to follow their own path rather than repeating the same old stuff.

The band split up around 20 years ago but they reformed in 2008 to do some gigs. It's not quite the original line-up but the new drummer Roy Mayorga has played with other excellent bands like Soulfly, Nausea & is currently playing for Stone Sour. They have just spent some time in the studio & have released a 12" EP called Redux. The tracks are all re-workings of existing material & I have to say it's great to hear the new versions. You can get a full review and a sample track from the Old Punks Never Die site.

The ABC Of Anarchy

This is a compilation of anarcho punk bands I made recently. I did have a nice idea for the track list but it all went a bit tits up at the letter Q so I've had to use a little artistic license ;) This is actually all mixed together into one big mp3 file. Unfortunately I couldn't use my decks as I don't have all the vinyl so it was done on my laptop using Audacity, a free audio editor. It goes on for around an hour and I've included some covers if you want to burn yourself a copy.

You can stream it here...

This is a compilation from Mortarhate Records which was originally released in 1984. It contains tracks from a number of anarchist and 'human rights' punk bands from the UK and is a fairly varied selection of anarcho punk. Mortarhate Records was initially set-up by the group Conflict and they released lots of stuff from a number of anarcho punk bands from that era.

Old Punks Never Die

I've just started doing uploads & posts for another good site so take the time to visit if you can. The Old Punks Never Die site contains music uploads, good vegan recipes, gardening tips and anything else that's vaguely punkish, or not for that matter so go along and help support sites like these. I mean, c'mon where else are you going to get the mp3's of that obscure old vinyl that you've been looking for. A simple thanks goes a long way.
