Blyth Power - A Little Touch Of Harry

UPDATE: I've re-ripped it from a different tape so the quality of this download is better. It's still from a 25 year old tape though :)

LATEST UPDATE: The Old Punk has given me some good news about this. Someone by the name of Paco has released a vinyl pressing of this classic. It's only £6 plus a bit for postage. It comes with a poster and a copy of the original booklet too. Get it here - La Vida Es En Mus.

A Little Touch Of Harry In The Night was the first release from Blyth Power. It was originally released on cassette in 1984 so the actual quality of the files is not exactly perfect.

Blyth Power are a British 'folk punk' band formed in 1983 by singer/drummer Joseph Porter, formerly of Zounds and The Mob.

Blyth Power's music shows strong influences from punk rock and folk music, and the band members have described their sound as a cross between The Clash, Steeleye Span and The Rubettes.

  1. Want some really good news? Paco (Conflict / Inner Terrestrials) has just released a vinyl pressing of this classic, which I picked up this week. And it's only £6 plus a bit for postage. It comes with a poster and a copy of the original booklet too. You can find it in his distro list here - La Vida Es En Mus.

I've never heard this 'tape' sound so good, even better than the first time I played it when it was new. My tape died a long time ago and all I've had since is an OK-ish rip. Finding this put a massive smile on my face and I've been playing it almost constantly!

  2. I've just downloaded this to compare it to the record. And I've got to say fair shout mate, your version is by far the best of the mp3 ones I've come across :) Good work with this rip, it's a close second to the big bit of plastic spinning on my turntable right now!

Yeah, I know, me and my vinyl fetish...but I'd rather the world's valuable resources were used for this sort of thing rather than big bombs and throwaway packaging.

  3. Cheers for the nice words about the new rip. This is one of my favourite releases of all time so I'm glad someone with the tehnical expertise has got round to getting a version onto vinyl. Thanks for the info :)

I'm just as bad with the fetish for vinyl. I've now run out of crates, boxes, cupboard space to store mine so it's starting to pile up in the lounge. The wife is ever so pleased about this new development ;)

  4. Now the 'Little Touch Of Harry' tape I never ever expected to see ever again..talk about rare anarcho artefacts! I think I wore the tape down to its cogs.

As a huge Mob fan I remember the huge anticipation when this tape was released and though it was definitely a huge departure sonically and lyrically speaking...freakin' steam trains!...it was definitely one of the standout releases of 1984.

27 years on and I still remember every word of every track...my gods, I forgot just how much younger self loved this tape! You have made my month with this! You are a total star!

  5. Thanks man. This is another one of my all time favourites and unfortunately I don't think they ever released anything as good as this.

This is a pretty good rip, certainly the best of the tape versions I've heard. This was actually ripped from my 'backup' copy of the tape and it's not perfect but like you said the original copy got played to the cogs.
