This is another compilation that I took from a radio station (IF99) on Grand Theft Auto IV. This one is a collection of afro-beat artists and once again this download is the full tracks rather than the actual game version. This has tracks from all the main 'afro-beat' artists including Manu Dibango, Fela Kuti & Femi Kuti and it's interspersed with some of the more 'standard' funk artists. Not all the tracks are classics but all in all it's an excellent compilation.

I actually got the track listing from a radio station on Grand Theft Auto IV (Fusion FM) but this has the complete tracks (with none of the Fusion FM adverts etc.). If you don't know the originals then you'll probably recognise them as they've been sampled by bands like Massive Attack & Dr Dre. I got track 8 from the GTA IV soundtrack but I've done some editing and removed the DJ talkover.

This show was recorded in 1983 at the Notting Hill Carnival and is from when they were at their very best, well that's what I reckon anyway. Though saying that I did see them play live a couple of years ago and they were still great and played a lot of the old classics. So even though the weather this summer was a washout, grab this and get yourself a taste of sunshine.

This download is the In Toytown album by The Cravats that was released on Small Wonder Records in 1980. The Cravats were a post-punk band from Redditch near Birmingham, England & played kinda experimental rock. This is a surprisingly good album & I've even included a couple of unreleased tracks at the end of the download. The two bonus tracks were produced by Penny Rimbaud from Crass & I got them from the excellent Kill Your Pet Puppy site.

OK, sorry for the missing week but I was on holiday. Anyway a friend of mine recently pointed me in the direction of Max Tannone and his Ghost Funk project. It was released in July 2011 and pairs Wu-Tang member Ghostface Killah, with vintage African funk, high-life, and psychedelic rock music. It really is an excellent release and I highly recommend it for listeners of the funky persuasion. When I originally got the email I knew I recognized the name and it turns out he also did another excellent remix project called Dub Kweli which is also pretty high on my playlist. Basically if you haven't heard these releases you should go and check out his site.
Here's a drum & bass / jungle mix I did in July that has a selection of old and new stuff. It's got a couple of 'iffy' mixes on it but nothing major so don't worry ;) I should say thanks to Hard To Find Records as they gave me a couple of free tunes. Only because they sent me an incorrect 12" (right cover, wrong vinyl) but their customer service was excellent and they sent me the right tune and told me to keep the original one they sent and refunded the original cost so check 'em out. This is a compilation of various 'electronica' artists. It was originally released as the soundtrack to the game Wipeout XL 2097. There's a good selection of different artists of the genre, including Orbital, Leftfield, Chemical Brothers & The Future Sound Of London. The only reason I dug this CD out was because after the Sony PS3 Network was hacked they gave out a selection of free games and the new version of Wipeout was included in your choices. Anyway it's got some good stuff on it :)

I got a request for the final Derek & Clive album so here it is. Derek and Clive is a double act of comedic characters created by Dudley Moore (Derek) and Peter Cook (Clive) in the 1970s. The characters are supposedly two lavatory attendants and are appallingly foul-mouthed extensions of their earlier characters Pete and Dud. Pretty much every 'sketch' is highly offensive and usually consist of the drunken pair swearing at each other. If words like fuck and shit offend you then you're not going to like this but I find some of it really funny :) This download is their third (& last) album called Ad Nauseam which was recorded in 1978. There was also a film documentary recorded in 1979 called Derek and Clive Get The Horn.

This album was probably the first proper crust/grind album I ever heard and I reckon it's a classic to this day. Concrete Sox and Heresy were two of the early pioneers of grind and this 1987 release showcases both bands in all their glory. The similarities between the bands are numerous. Both come from Nottingham in the UK, both formed around the mid-eighties and both are fast as fuck.
Concrete Sox reformed fairly recently and did a few European shows but I don't know if they're still currently together. You can get 2 free albums (Your Turn Next & Whoops Sorry Vicar) at the official Concrete Sox site. There are also a couple of live shows (At The Station 1984 & Live In Japan 1994) available and the original demo for Speak Siberian Or Die so go get 'em. There is also a myspace page for Heresy.
Here's a live show from the american punk band Flipper. This was recorded at the KALX radio station in Berkeley, California on the 28th of June 1981. Flipper were formed in 1979 in San Francisco, California continuing in often erratic fashion until the mid-1990s, then reuniting in 2005. They were founded from former members of the Sleepers and Negative Trend. Founding member and original vocalist Ricky Williams who is credited for naming the band was fired from the band before any recordings. They're not your average punk band and were definitely on the more lunatic side of things :)
