Electric Blues Collection

This is a selection of some Electric Blues from a number of different artists. It includes people like John Lee Hooker, Ry Cooder, Howlin' Wolf, Stray Cats & Muddy Waters.

Electric blues is a type of blues music distinguished by the amplification of the guitar, bass, drums & often the harmonica. Pioneered in the 1930s, it emerged as a genre in Chicago in the 1940s. It was taken up in many areas of America leading to the development of regional subgenres such as electric Memphis blues & Texas blues.

I do have to say that Ry Cooder's guitar playing on Feelin' Bad Blues is probably the best slide guitar I've ever heard :) It's from the Crossroads soundtrack.

  1. If you like electric blues, ernest and others, you shouldn't miss this one by the world's most amazing blues bassist: Electric Blues Duo - Frank Diez guitar & Colin Hodgkinson bass and vocals, Live May 2nd, 1989 at Disco Circus, Mannheim, Germany. SDB, A+, guitar low on track 1 hence wrongly marked as audience recording. Despite colin's comments about amp problems, the bass is upfront, and the overall quality is superb. Mp3 @320, FLAC available.

I have a huge collection of Colin's work with Alexis Korner, Frank Diez and Back Door, and offered edo my 3-CD compilation of his career - which he turned down as not right for knowyourconjurer. If you'd like to post it, I'd be delighted - just leave me a note here. Cheers, Dave Sez.

  3. Cheers Dave :)

btw. long time no 'speak'. Hope you've been keeping well :) You may have noticed this blog is only just barely alive. All the mediafire and megaupload links are dead so I'm not sure what I'm gonna do now... maybe just upload my own compilations/mixes. I don't think I received any 'copyright infringement' emails about any of those.
