Minor Threat - Demo's, Rehearsals & More

Here's a selection of demo's, rehearsals and alternate versions of tracks by Minor Threat. Included in the download is a rehearsal from 1981 done in the living room at their home, Dischord House. Apparently the original source was recorded on a Maxwell normal bias UR 90 cassette. There is also a copy of their first demo tape which was recorded in 1981 and then released in 2003. There is also an 'alternate mix' version of the Out Of Step album and finally I've also included another collection of demos that was released in 2001 as a split album with Youth Brigade (I've included the Youth Brigade tracks as well). Obviously some of the quality isn't great but you've already got the discography CD so I thought I'd post up some more obscure stuff.

Minor Threat were an American hardcore punk band, formed in 1980 in Washington, D.C.. The band split in 1983 & even though they were fairly short-lived they had a massive influence on the hardcore punk scene, both stylistically & in establishing a "do it yourself" ethic for music distribution & concert promotion. Their song "Straight Edge" became the eventual basis of the straight edge movement, while the band often professed their own "straight edge" ideals.

Hoolio - Dubstep Mix (Q1 2012)

Here's an excellent little dubstep mix by DJ Hoolio. I met Hoolio a few weeks back & as well as being a proficient DJ he is also a producer & engineer, running his own studio. He also runs drumstepuk.com, a web based radio station for all the bass-heads out there. As well as streaming non-stop Drum & Bass, Dub Step & House there is also live DJ sets most evenings. You can either listen on-line or use the free app so go check it out now.

DJ Embryo - King Dub Mix

Here's a new jungle mix I did recently. It's got a couple of exclusive tracks on it so shout outs to Silicon Drum for the superb King Dub track and to my young protege DJ Blits for letting me remix his Come Into My Room track. I did this mix using vinyl and Audacity, a free audio editor. There's a few recent tunes included on the mix but mostly it's some old favourites. Mainly because I can't get hold of the vinyl so I had to download them. Unfortunately that does mean that some of the tracks aren't perfect quality (there's even a couple of youtube downloads) but nothing major. Anyway download it and enjoy.

Slayer - Undisputed Attitude

Undisputed Attitude is the seventh studio album by American thrash metal band Slayer. The album is mainly a collection of punk covers of bands like Minor Threat, T.S.O.L. & D.R.I.. Guitarist Jeff Hanneman used two of the four punk songs he had written in 1984 and 1985 as part of a side project called Pap Smear, while King and vocalist Tom Araya wrote an original song titled "Gemini". I've also included a few other cover songs that Slayer have done... and some of those are definitely worth hearing. In fact this is basically Slayer playing 'us-style' hardcore punk & it's fucking great ;)

Flux Of Pink Indians - 1980 Demo, Neu Smell EP & Last Bus To Dresden EP

Here's a assortment of tracks from Flux Of Pink Indians. Included in the download is the Last Bus To Dresden EP from when they were going under the name The Epileptics. There is also an early 6 track demo which was recorded in 1980 and finally there is also the Neu Smell EP which was released on Crass Records in 1981. Flux Of Pink Indians were an anarcho-punk band originating from Bishops Stortford in the UK. The single covers etc. are included in the downloads.

I originally got the demo from the excellent Kill Your Pet Puppy site so a big thanks to them. There's loads of good stuff there so you should check it out.

Subhumans - 1981 Demo & Extras

Here's a download of a 3 track demo from 1981 by the UK punk band Subhumans along with some other Subhumans 'related' stuff. There's a collection of 14 tracks by the Stupid Humans who were basically the Subhumans before Dick Lucas joined. There's also 8 tracks from the Mental which was the band Dick Lucas was in before joining the Subhumans. The band reformed fairly recently and are still excellent so check 'em out if you can. The files are only in 128kbps and the quality is far from perfect but they are only demo's and if you like the band then this is some stuff you may not've heard before.

Serial Killaz - Full Metal Jack Up Mix (NEW LINKS)

I was looking through some old mixes the other day and I came across this little gem. It's a jungle / drum & bass mix from 2009 but unfortunately I can't remember where I got it from. The cover says it's presented by the Serial Killaz and mixed by DJ Tera but whoever is responsible it's an excellent mix. It goes on for 70 minutes and is all in one big file. This is much like the mixes I do (it's got a couple of tunes that are on my wish list) so if you like them you'll like this.

Black Uhuru Collection

Here is a collection of tracks from the excellent reggae band, Black Uhuru. Black Uhuru are a Jamaican reggae band probably best known for their hits "Shine Eye Gal", "Guess Who’s Coming to Dinner", "Sinsemilla", "Solidarity" and "What Is Life?". They were the first group to win a Grammy in the reggae category when it was introduced in 1985. They originally formed in 1972 as Uhuru (the Swahili word for freedom). Tracks 11 & 12 aren't perfect quality but my vinyl is a bit scratchy (nothing major though).
